Grandpa knew but didn’t tell, and so it goes…
What unites young people in the search for identity and their place in society is the need to take a stance towards older generations, or even to settle up with them. Where we come from, or rather who we come from, seems to be one of the most integral elements of our personality. The title of the exhibition refers to the words of a nursery rhyme, because relationships with one’s parents and grandparents, as an identity-shaping element, are inextricably linked with childhood and memories of it. The group exhibition shows the works of over twenty young artists studying at the Academy of Fine Arts and in Katowice, presenting a cross-section of diverse attitudes and approaches to the subject. Relationships with family and childhood memories can be a safe refuge, but they can also be a source of trauma and suffering. In most cases, feelings and emotions intermingle, creating an ambivalent and nuanced mix.
