Ireneusz Walczak

Born in 1961, a graduate of the Faculty of Graphic Art of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (branch in Katowice). He obtained his diploma with distinction in 1988. Professor Walczak teaches the Painting Studio for students of year 2-5 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. Since 1989, he has created eleven cycles of painting, inlcuding The Building of Identity, My House Is My Language, Multikulti. He has shown his works at 270 group exhibitions and 21 solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad, and won 30 national and international awards and distinctions, including the Grand Prix – medal of the Mayor of Chamalières – at the 1st World Triennial of Small Prints, Chamalières, France (1988); The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award, New York, USA (1993); Grand Prix Bielska Jesień, Bielsko-Biała (1993). Prof. Walczak was a participant of important exhibitions of the generation, including Krytycy o nas, BWA Gallery in Sopot (1989), Czarna Dziura, BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice (1990), Malarstwo lat 80., Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Germany (1991), Rozbiórka Żelaznej Kurtyny, Kühlhaus exhibition centre, Berlin (2011), Koń trojański, BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice (2015). He has frequently attended the Art Cologne and Art Frankfurt fairs.
