Born in Katowice in 1953. He graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Art of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (branch in Katowice) in 1977. He studied painting under the guidance of Prof. Rafał Pomorski and Prof. Andrzej S. Kowalski, and obtained the title of Professor of Fine Arts in 1999. He was an active participant of the independent culture movement in 1980s and received a grant of the Polish Committee of Independent Culture (Paris) in 1988. At present, Kazimierz Cieślik runs the Painting Studio, paints, and writes cultural commentary. His most important awards include: Bielska Jesień, Bielsko-Biała 1990 (bronze medal); Transcendencja International Triennial, Katowice 1991 (Grand Prix); Award of the Minister of Culture and Art, 1992; 26th Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting, Szczecin 1996. His work has been presented at 33 solo exhibitions and in numerous exhibitions in Poland, Belgium, France, Sweden, Germany and Spain. His paintings are included in the collections of the Silesian Museum in Katowice, Museum of Katowice Archdiocese, National Museum in Szczecin, and in private collections in Poland and abroad. He was awarded the Gloria Artis medal in 2014.
