Ball at the Opera and Jerzy Stuhr at AFA Katowice
Performance by the students of the AST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków, Faculty of the Dance Theatre in Bytom, in the building at 50 Raciborska st., followed by a lecture by the director Jerzy Stuhr. Admission is free to both events.
Jerzy Stuhr says about the show:
Tuwim’s narrative poem discusses Poland. Written during the time of rising fascist-hued nationalism in the late 1930s Poland, it has become good material to discuss the current situation in the country with students. The poetry has a rhythm, which directs the choreography of our movement on stage. In this collective exercise we have used the full text, which allows the students to test themselves both in group scenes and in individual tasks. Ball at the Opera is a satire on the end of a certain world, which continues to surprise us with its relevance, and the energy of the young performers.
