Pola widzenia książki (Fields of vision of the book): project summary
The project was carried out in 2018 as a continuation of the project started in 2017. AFA Katowice was one of the partners.
The project goal was to extend the platform for educating the competences of culture users through literature. The planned activities included workshops, art actions, city excursions, exhibitions and joint meetings of specialists and the wider public, with the objective to enhance the offer of the library and adjust it to the needs of the modern readers, especially the youngest or those with limited access to culture. The activities involved other institutions and organizations, which were invited to cooperate. The core of the project was literature, with its relations to visual arts, music, dance, design and architecture.
One of the goals was to popularize the idea of an open library as embodied by the Silesian Library House of Education. The workshops which had been run successfully at the House now had the chance to be presented in the new spaces of the partner institutions. The project was closed with a final meeting and an exhibition.
The project partners were: the Polish Committee of the International Society for Education through Art, BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice, Stowarzyszenie na rzecz Dzieci i Młodzieży „Korczak”, Polish Society of Urban Planners, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice.
An important aspect of the project was the long-term strategy of developing a local book network, and then exchanging the experience in Poland and in Europe. The cooperation developed so far withi a partner network was a great value in the project.
The project was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
