Born in Sucha Beskidzka in 1964, she is an art history graduate from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. She wrote her diploma thesis on Polish funeral banners under the supervision of Prof. Jan K. Ostrowski. She studied at the Freie Universität Berlin as a grantee of the Gerda Henkel Stiftung, and defended her doctoral dissertation at the University of Wrocław in 1996, presenting her work on palaces and castles in Upper Silesia under Prussian rule in 1850-1914 (under the supervision of Prof. Ewa Chojecka). She was awarded the associate professor (dr hab.) degree at the University of Warsaw in 2007, based on the publication of Dylematy architektoniczne na przemysłowym Górnym Śląsku w latach 1763–1955 (Architectural dilemmas in the industrial Upper Silesia in 1763-1955). She has been teaching the history of art and design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice since 1998. He books and articles include Art Deco, Ikony dizajnu w województwie śląskim (Design icons in the Silesian voivodship), Polski design (Polish design).
