Born in Zawiercie in 1977, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and completed his medal-winning diploma project at Jan Szmatloch’s Intaglio Techniques Studio in 2004. Since then, he has been working at the Academy. He obtained his degree of Doctor of Fine Arts in 2011. His interests include drawing and printmaking (intaglio). Marcin Białas is an active participant of graphic art competitions and festivals in Poland and abroad. His solo exhibitions of graphic art were presented in Poland, Canada, Romania, Germany, Ireland, Belarus and France. He has been a grantee of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (Canada, 2005), Tadeusz Kulisiewicz Foundation (Warsaw, 2006), Marshal of the Silesian Voivodship (Katowice, 2007), Minister of Culture and National Heritage (Warsaw, 2007 and 2010) and the “Młoda Polska” programme (Warsaw, 2012). In 2014 Marcin Białas was awarded a Bronze Cross of Merit by the President of the Republic of Poland.
