Grzegorz Hańderek elected new rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice
The college of electors of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice decided unanimously to elect dr hab. Grzegorz Hańderek, the current Vice-Rector, to be the next rector of the Academy. He will replace prof. Antoni Cygan, who has been performing this function since 2012.
Grzegorz Hańderek, associate professor of the AFA in Katowice, heads the Interpretation of Literature Studio. Dean of the Faculty of Art in 2008-2012, he has been Vice-Rector for Education and Student Affairs from 2012.
The Rector-elect was born in Zabrze in 1977, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice (diploma with distinction at the Intaglio Techniques Studio in 2003) and at the University of Silesia (branch in Cieszyn, diploma in 2002). He has been teaching at the AFA in Katowice since 2003, obtaining the degree of Doctor of Fine Arts in 2005, and doktor habilitowany in 2010. He was twice a grantee of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Author of several dozen solo exhibitions, curator of the Triennial of Polish Graphic Art, participant of over 200 group exhibitions in Poland and abroad, winner of many awards and distinctions. His work focuses on visual arts and graphic art.
