Invasion of Ukraine – the Academy’s response
We fully and utterly condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Our thoughts are with all those who leave their homes in haste, fearing for their lives and health and for their loved ones.
We join the international community in expressing our outrage at the criminal acts of a terrorist nature committed on a daily basis by the Russian army, which violate all the rules of the civilised world.
We hope that the efforts to end the ongoing war in a sovereign and independent state will be successful and that our eastern neighbours will once again be at peace.
As a community of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice, we are very much involved in helping Ukraine and its refugees. Below we publish information about our initiatives, and at the same time we ask for your support.
Online fundraiser
We have already been joined by 21 people from Lviv, Kiev and Kharkiv. The students, who arrived recently, have been provided with accommodation, financial support, free Polish lessons and the opportunity to study. We are also trying to give them the best possible care.
However, the funds at our disposal are not sufficient, hence the idea of an online fundraiser. All funds raised during this event will go towards securing the daily needs of the refugees who are continuing their studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice, and will stay with us at least until the end of the summer semester. Collection at the Academy
On the initiative of students, a collection point was set up in the building at ul. Raciborska 50 to collect the most needed items for people of Ukraine.
