Katowice to be European City of Science in 2024
Granting the title of the European City of Science 2024 to Katowice was announced during the press conference at the Scientific Information Center and Academic Library (CINiBA) on 22 December 2021.
Being granted the title of the European City of Science 2024 and hosting the ESOF2024 conference prove that the city of Katowice and Katowice universities are experienced co-organizers and hosts of global events such as the UN Climate Change Conference (COP24) and UN World Urban Forum 2022. The authorities of the Silesian Voivodship and Metropolis GZM have offered organizational support to the region’s universities in connection with assuming the ECS title. Katowice is the first city of Central-Eastern Europe to be honoured with the title. As a European City of Science, Katowice becomes the European capital of science.
The institution granting the title and organizing the ESOF conference is EuroScience (European Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology), the largest European association of researchers and scientists.
